Lucky for us, though I'm not a fan of the mode, we'll have another reason to play Gambit...
This pinnacle AR comes from a Gambit quest, looks fantastic.
Breakneck—Precision Auto Rifle (Kinetic) Breakneck’s unique perk is “Onslaught: This weapon’s rate of fire increases as you stack Rampage.” When the plan was made to create more pinnacle weapons for a variety of activities and not just the Crucible, we had to think of something that would fit the activity. This was intended to be a workhorse for Gambit encounters, where killing large numbers of enemies very fast is the name of the game for a significant portion of it, so something with Rampage was an obvious starting point. Pinnacle weapons occupy an interesting space in the sandbox where we can take what is normally a Legendary-tier effect like Rampage and expand on that idea further. We did it with Outlaw for Desperado, and we’re doing something similar here for Rampage.
How to earn Breakneck: Pick up the quest from the Drifter Complete all the following objectives; you can earn progress toward these goals at the same time 500 Auto Rifle kills 100 Auto Rifle multikills 150 challenging enemies defeated 40 Gambit matches completed Complete all of the objectives and head back to the Drifter to receive a fully Masterworked Breakneck
Surely we can manage to find and defeat that stupid boss at least once during 40 games, right? Our luck can't be that bad, especially if we do it on a Max Curse week.
Ahh, I didn't get on here last night so just seeing this. I got two games in. Also kinda annoyed it cleared out all my bounties I had completed and was holding for reset. No clue if it gave me the rewards or not either, don't really care.
Why are the Shards of Galanor so terribly inconsistent? It's like rolling the dice. Clear a bunch of enemies, make 6 orbs, the super regeneration lasts 1 second and barely does anything. Other times, you just about get it back completely for doing literally the exact same thing.
I've played 30 games of Gambit so far this week after not playing any of it for like a month and a half. It's a full curse week, and I've seen the meatball maybe 3 times and probably half of the games have gone three rounds.
My big problem with Gambit remains the same. It's super frustrating. It's billed as competitive PvE, but it's hardly competitive. Primaries, especially Auto's, Pulses, & Scouts feel absurdly under-powered. Play any other PvE activity and red bars get shredded. In Gambit it feels like a chore to kill anything with a primary while it's like a burn has been applied to every enemy weapon. The thing that makes it not competitive though is the RNG nature of ammo drops.
I can kill 50-60 enemies over the course of a game, and be near teammates when they get kills, and seen maybe four special bricks drop. One or two heavy bricks in an entire game, though I have gone many games without getting a single heavy brick to drop despite using "heavy ammo finder."
Shielded yellow bars should always be a 100% guarantee to drop either a special brick, a heavy brick, or occasionally both.
Without ammo, it's no fun tickling the Primeval for 13 a crit with an AR.
I also think invading needs to be reworked. I wouldn't mind seeing a cost associated with invading. Need to bank 25 motes like it currently is to get the portal active, BUT you have to carry blocker motes to invade. 5 Motes gets you 10 seconds. 10 Motes gets you 20 seconds. 15 Motes gets you the full 30 seconds.
I wouldn't be completely opposed to removing invading from the mode, but reworking Primevals to have some mechanics (even if extremely simple like the meatball immunity blights) to avoid melting bosses.
It's just not a fun mode, especially when half of the maps are straight garbage. I'm curious to see how it evolves next season.
I am looking forward to the Forges activity Tuesday.
Can be 609 right now, still have several things to do on my Hunter.
Played 30 games of Gambit during full curse week, so meatball three times. First game of Gambit this week, saw it and finally killed it in a team with Payne and Constant. Also hit Fabled. Need 7 games to get Breakneck.
