Yeah I love the changes to career mode and the fact you can also use a pre-existing fighter. Lots of replay value there. Crete an event is always my bread and butter since I like to run cards. Wish they'd hurry up and release the full roster so I can get to work on my spreadsheet for this year.
Think with such a large roster I'm going to do it a little different this year and start everybody had zero rather than using their real life existing records as a starting point. Formula will remain the same but I'll just start everyone on equal footing.
Full roster is out now. Pretty in depth and on first glance looks solid as hell.
Decided to do my spreadsheet different this time. Last time I had a main section where you fed in wins and losses and those fed the sub sections for weight classes. The problem with that though is guys who are available in multiple weight classes. For instance Chael could win a fight at Middleweight but it also improved his ranking at Light Heavyweight. So this time I'm going to just have individual sections for weight classes and results of the fights will have to be fed directly into those. That way a win at Middleweight doesn't affect your points at Light Heavyweight. The formula itself will remain the same for how total points are determined though.
Also like I said I'm starting everybody at zero wins so everybody is on equal footing. Problem I had before is Overeem had so many wins that the points he got off his pre-existing record kept him highly ranked even if he had a losing streak. This way actual in game wins and loses only will be the determining factor as to where someone is ranked.
I will include legends in the spreadsheet, it'll just be up to you if you use them.
EA Access has this as one of its 10 hour trials starting to day. I went ahead and paid $5 to get to check out the full game prior to release. Only thing that is locked out is Live Events, they haven't updated that with the upcoming Mir vs Hunt fight night.
Hell of an upgrade from the first game. I think I have a couple of hours left in my trial and I almost hated to stop. Can't wait to get this on Tuesday.
EDIT: Oh wow, you can cancel the service after the 10 hours and get a full refund.
I'll have to check that out and see what I can dig up.
When you start doing your custom events, are you going to book what you want or try and stick to the upcoming UFC cards as best you can?
Edit: Yeah it unlocked now. Not sure why it didn't last night, but I just turned it on and got the pop up about "As a thank you..."
BTW, DC knocked me out at the start of round 2 when I played last night. Tyson's stamina is shit, I could only throw 3 or 4 punches before he gassed out and I had to back off.
Edit: And I welcome the addition of Bruce Lee by knocking him out in the first round with Conor McGregor. FLYING KNEE!!!
I used the current champs as a starting point and more or less picked my own number one contender. Took awhile to set everyone up with a fight but after the first set of cards it should mostly be point based who fights who. I added a couple new columns to help a little bit with tie breaks. I added a "Times Finished" column that subtracts two points for every time you get finished. Adds a way to penalize a knockout/submission loss more than a decision loss. I also added a "Title Fight Wins" column that awards five points for every title fight win. The logic behind this is it helps keep champions at the top of the division rankings and also keeps former champions from dropping too far down following a title fight loss. Lastly I added a POTN/FOTN column that awards one point for each post fight award given out in the custom events mode. This way a Performance of the Night knockout or submission win carries more weight than a regular knockout or submission win. Additionally a losing effort in a Fight of the Night is penalized less than a standard loss.
Speaking of changes I've noticed a couple small things:
-Myles Jury was removed from Lightweight and added to Featherweight -Jorge Masvidal was removed from Lightweight and added to Welterweight
I understand adding them to the the other divisions since that is where both most recently fought but I don't understand taking them out of divisions they have fought in previously. Especially when you consider guys like Rory Macdonald and GSP are both in the middleweight division despite never fighting there. In my opinion all fighters should be available in any division they have fought in during their career.
Sadly you have to run it all at once. I wouldn't be surprised if that is something that gets patched eventually though as that has been requested quite a bit. I typically run 8 fight cards. The game calls it 5 main and 3 prelims but on paper I run it as 4 and 4. I don't use everybody (most retired guys I don't use) and it takes just over 15 events to get everybody a fight. My 15 events consist of 10 PPVs and 5 Fight Nights. There are 10 UFC weight classes so each PPV represents a title fight and each fight night is headlined by a 5 round non-title fight. I stick a fight night in after every two PPVs. So it breaks down like: UFC 1, UFC 2, Fight Night 1, UFC 3, UFC 4, Fight Night 2, etc.
There aren't "official" champions in game but typically they are listed first on the roster select screen. So while they updated Tate as being the champion on the Ultimate Team packs, they did not do the same on the roster select screen. Typically when you pick a division it lists the champion on the left and the #1 contender at the time on the right.
In terms of running cards it doesn't matter though, whoever you pick on the left side in a title fight is the champion by default
Yeah I went ahead and booked a Holm/Tate to headline a fight night card I want to run sometime this weekend. Think I'm gonna run 3 different shows, Fight Night, Fight Pass and UFC. Not exactly sure the frequency I will run them, but I'd guess UFC's are the ones I will most likely have every month.
