Ugh spent the last hour working through the Temple of the Spider epic dungeon and man is that boss a damn sponge. We did okay though our main issue was our Tank kind of sucked. I kept hoping he'd drop but unfortunately he was a clan mate of the Healer and one of the DPS guys. We tried the boss a good 4 or 5 times and I knew it wasn't going to happen so I threw in the towel.
Only good thing is, since it is a multiple boss dungeon you get drops for each boss completion. So I did manage to get 20 Protector Seals and I believe 40 Seals of the Elements.
Man absolutely buy the Dragon Keys from the Zen market. You can get a 5 pack for 300 zen. For some reason I thought they were tied to the Dragon Event at the Stronghold but they actually act as a substitute for any Epic Dungeon key as well as a replacement for A Lesser or Greater Demonic Key.
Got a couple of Demo completions this morning and got a +3 Ring of Brutality which is what I've been wanting. It gives 4000 power for 4-10 seconds based on the level of the ring (in my case 6) and it refreshes every 30 seconds. Basically my first round of encounters get a huge damage boost. I want the Legendary +5 version which lasts for 10 seconds and has two Offensive enchantment slots
There is also a version that gives the same bonus to Crit but it only drops from Castle Never
I've got 68 Epic Keys, 10 Greater Dragon Keys, 2 Lesser Dragon Keys that I make every day, and a key or two for the rest.
I'm losing interest in the game though. When I try an epic dungeon, it either doesn't go very well or you get in the loop of people dropping out. Tried ELoL yesterday, two people dropped right as we spawned in from a fresh run. One joined, one dropped, and that continued on for about six minutes before I ever saw the first mob. Finally got a full team, two people immediately died to the first mob. No healing at all.
It's just to progress you need certain gear, and that only comes from super lucky RNG in the epic dungeons and Demogorgon. And even if you get it, you're going to likely need a ton of materials to refine into it. All to up an item level to make the things you're already having to do to get that gear easier.
And sure, Destiny's the same way. But the RNG in Destiny is a lot more player friendly, especially now, than it is in this game because they want you to spend money to make things easier/less frustrating.
I just don't like that in order to progress I have to rely on other people, all randoms.
I've cut back playing it quite a bit. Now I'll get on, do some invocation and set my professions, and then either idle until I can do it again or hop off and then get back on to do it again. Very little actually playing it; 30 minutes to an hour a day.
I'll probably be switching back over just about completely to Destiny a week or two before Rise of Iron. Still got my subclasses to level up on my Warlock, and want to farm some Motes and other materials plus edge up my factions. Also working in some Division, because the Underground DLC is pretty fun.
See for the most part I've actually had way better luck in queue groups then I used to have. Though I'm honestly more interested in farming Demo at this point for the seals than anything else. Only two things I really would like from an Epic Dungeon off the top of my head is the Lostmauh Necklace and the Legendary Crit ring from Castle Never.
Oh yeah Demo is the thing to farm; it's not going to take too long to do, and you don't really have to worry about people dropping out. But it's still 50/50 at best if you'll even get to do it. I know the last three times I've queued up for it I've sat in the queue the entire time and never got it in.
Sucks because the ring I want (Ring of Rising Power +4 or +5) and the belt I want (Demogorgon's Girdle of Might) drop from Demogorgon. The only other thing I want is the Shard Orcus’ Wand artifact, and that drops from Castle Never... and considering no queue I get in can even stick together to beat a 1600 Epic Dungeon, I have no desire to see how much of a fail the 2000 one is.
Man I should play the lottery. I had my 4 Vorpal shards and went ahead and said screw it, I'll just use a few green wards and see if I had any luck with the 1% chance and it worked. Only took 5 attempts.
Completed the Maze Engine Campaign finally and also have the final boon for Sharandar. Now I'll just be doing Icewind Dale, Dread Ring, and Sharandar dailies. Icewind Dale in order to finish the campaign, the other two in order to farm the 1,000 treasure vouchers for the Stronghold.
Literally just logged on to claim VIP stuff, do my first invocation for the Ardent coin, and professions. Maxed out mailsmithing today. Will log on again in about 9 hours, as that's when my shirt should be finished. 60% chance to be a Gemmed, so here's hoping.
I'm nearing my finished point on this. I had a decent amount of stuff saved, plus get a good amount of stuff from the Wanderer's Fortune bonus, but even with this 2x refining it's still going to be impossible for me to get an artifact up to legendary. I got my main weapon to epic, but that's about it. I won't even be able to get my Baphomet cloak to epic.
You just need to pump so much time into the game now to be able to progress on the item level, and I just don't think it's worth it. Everything I get that doesn't come from the lockbox is bound, so I can't even sell any of it.
It's become one of those games that damn near needs to be treated as a job and the only game you play. I feel like I've got my $60 out of it, but I just don't see me spending too much more time on it.
I don't think the grind is as bad as it seems. I'll admit that it is overwhelming at first but it honestly had more to do with me not knowing a lot about refining. I have 3 pieces of gear that aren't Epic right now, and one of those is my Baphomet cloak in which I just got and replaced my Epic cloak. I have one artifact that is level 81 of 99 towards becoming Legendary but I still expect it will take some time. I'm just not in a huge rush. The main thing for me is I dump all my enchantments into a single artifact. I also recommend checking the auction house as every once in a while somebody will be selling a ton of level 7 artifacts for a good price. I lucked out on that twice already. Also you could always use your trade bars to buy some of the companion runestones to use for refining, they give a lot. The main thing is each time you level up your artifact you do improve your stats so you are making progress. Sharandar and Dread Ring dailies are also good for refinement material. Hell with the Stronghold being at the goal I refine any green equipment into my artifact equipment. Only 100 points but it adds up fast considering how much they drop.
Item Level is meaningless it really is. I'd like to hit 2500 just so I can open the Master Demogorgon but even then I'm not in a rush. I honestly don't spend a ton of time on the game but I play everyday. I typically get on in the morning and run a few quests and get my VIP stuff. I'm really only focusing on 3 zones like I said before. If somebody is on and wants help I'll help but other than that I just hit those three. If I have extra time I might go to Well of Dragons or run some random things. I need to get better about running regular dungeons but I honestly prefer Skirmishes at this point since the loot potential is better.
I disagree about the time thing. If you want to hit absolute max quickly then sure, but the same can be said about any game. When Rise of Iron comes out I can guarantee me and you will hit higher light levels faster than your average player but that's because we'll play it more than your average player. There really is no reason to want to be have all your gear to Legendary or Mythic this quickly outside of it just speeding up the process of doing whatever dailies you want to do.
I was irritated about the Epic Dungeon queues at first, though they've gotten better they still aren't good. At the same time there isn't anything that it is pressing for me to get from an Epic Dungeon right now. I need Protector Seals for my Soulforged Shards, Vorpal Shards, and the Gauntlets I want but I can get those from Demogorgon as well as completing 5 of the Maze Engine dailies. Other than that I'm more interested in leveling up current gear than pursuing additional.
I think the biggest difference between this and Destiny is we have a group that plays Destiny and does the Raids, we've yet to establish that on Neverwinter.
And with the release of Storm King's Thunder/patch today, I have deleted Neverwinter.
Didn't plan on it, but it is what it is. The patched downloaded, said it installed, then said it couldn't be downloaded. Results in a Cannot start the application error. Seems to be happening to most everyone on PS4:
Yep, same here. No reason to keep it on the HD if I can't play it, and I didn't get to play it anywhere near as much as I would have liked anyway. That's more due to my not being able to play games as much as I'd like and not a reflection of Neverwinter itself obviously.
Tried to play this again tonight because I wanted to see what their winter festival was like, and I had been wanting to see the Storm King's Thunder stuff, but nope.
I think having not played in months (I have 3 days left on my VIP though), that I'd absolutely need to start a new character and relearn the game. And I don't have time for that. I think I'm going to have to look at this as being a fun game that I put a lot of time into in a relatively short amount of time (couple of months) and ultimately got $60 out of but will never touch again.
I just can't see ever getting back into this, again without starting from scratch.
