Yeah I'm hoping that mission is easier now that we have raid gear that does extra damage to Taken.
Didn't realize you couldn't wear your exotic faction item (though it makes sense) if you switch factions. Switched my Hunter to FWC since there is nothing else I can get from Dead Orbit. I'll end up switching back next week though, don't want to lose the light levels. Guess I'll hold off until I get a higher light level cloak to infuse into either my IB cloak or my Bladedancer cloak.
This week at Bungie we’re talking about your rematch with Oryx, the return of Trials of Osiris, and (you guessed it) we’re talking about Shadowshot.
A funny thing happened on the way to the Lighthouse. It turns out that there’s a particularity nasty bug that would undoubtedly conspire to create a less competitive return to form for Trials of Osiris. We’re going to be intentionally vague here, for what we hope are obvious reasons!
We’re going to disable that bug before we invite you to take your next run at a 9-0. We’re also working on a final fix for the bug itself as soon as possible. As soon as we have a solid commitment for Brother Vance, we’ll make a formal announcement on when Trial of Osiris will begin again. We hope that most of you recognize the impact a limitless Nightstalker would have on the competitive landscape.
Thanks for your patience.
Another group that has been eager for a new challenge ever since they sent Oryx careening toward Saturn is our seasoned six-player Raid teams. If you’ve managed to slay the Taken King aboard his own fortress, you’re off to a good start, but your fight is far from finished. That battle is about to get a lot harder.
Originally, we’d planned to introduce King’s Fall Hard mode on October 30th, but the Raid team is ready to go, and we’ve decided to launch a little bit early.
King’s Fall Raid: Hard Mode Friday, October 23rd 10 AM Pacific
Right about now, some of you are wondering what you can do to prepare. We won’t give you hints, but we’ll plot the difficulty incline. Recommended Light for Hard Mode is 300 – 320. The loot that will drop will be between 310 – 320. Gear up and mark your calendars.
Before the race for World First begins, we’ll share some more insights from the Raid design team that’s about to bring the real pain.
After Update 2.0.1
This week we deployed another update to Destiny. If you’ve downloaded its contents, you’ve very likely already discovered what’s new in year two. We brought Tess back to teach you some new moves. Lord Saladin is holding court in the Traveler’s Walk. We’ve also made some essential changes to the player experience.
We’ve been listening to the conversation over the past few days. Here are some answers to some of the most frequent questions you’ve been asking.
Indeed, we hear you. We’re looking at the data, as well. It’s too early to dig in and make any promises. We’ll talk more soon, once we get a full picture.
“Why am I not getting my Iron Banner rewards?”
Iron Banner has been both a test of skill and your best gear, as well as a way to get a new set of gilded armor and weapons. Legendary items won’t drop until you reach Rank 2 with Lord Saladin, and the pool expands as you continue to climb the ranks.
The premiere items we believe you’ll want to obtain are also available for purchase from Lord Saladin himself. Subsequent Iron Banner events will include additional pieces of gear.
“What are you doing about the lag in Iron Banner?”
If you’re manipulating network traffic, or if your connection is so bad that you’re unintentionally compromising the experience of other players, we’ll issue a temporary restriction from all Crucible activity. The first round of these restrictions went live yesterday. The second wave is happening as we speak. As always, we start small to ensure our tools are properly calibrated, and widen the net as we become more confident that we’re ensnaring the actual perpetrators of shenanigans. Fair Warning: We will also permanently ban repeat offenders!
When Trials of Osiris is live, we’ll be utilizing the same policy and technology. Play nice, and please make use of our in-game reporting tools should you come across a player you believe needs some extra time and attention from our team.
Our matchmaking engineers are also monitoring the overall health of the matchmaking pool writ large with an eye toward making improvements across the board. You’ll be hearing from that team about their progress in the weeks to come.
“How about those Nightfall rewards?”
There is another update inbound as soon as next week that will deliver more frequent and more powerful Legendary rewards to the Nightfall loot tables. We’ll save the specific numbers for the Patch Notes. And, of course, the best reality about the nature of those rewards will be found in your feedback.
“Someone datamined files that prove Tess will be selling King’s Fall consumables! You said you wouldn’t do that! Why are you doing that!?”
We’re not doing that. The files in question were actually first uncovered some time ago, well before the launch of Eververse Trading Company. They weren’t ever intended to be sold in exchange for Silver. What you’re seeing are remnant files for Three of Coins or Moldering Shard like items that would have been available from Xûr. Ultimately, the team decided that they didn’t have a place in the game, and cut them from the experience. You’re seeing some dust and echoes from the cutting room floor.
Files that get datamined aren’t official sources of news, though we understand why they are intriguing.
“Why did you change the economy for Strange Coins and Weapon Parts?”
In Year 2, we took steps to streamline and simplify the economy for players, with hopes that providing more direct paths to gear and the stuff you needed to upgrade that gear would just be more satisfying across the board. Changes to economy of the game are made in the interest of preserving the value of the items in your inventory and ensuring that you have good uses for the things you’re saving.
Weapon Parts, specifically, have been particularly vexing. Some players use a LOT of Parts, whereas others use almost none. Still, we are very aware that this is a choke point for some players, and further adjustments may be in order.
In all cases, we're still watching our reports and listening to feedback, and we will continue to react to how things are going.
Thanks for playing, and keep sounding off. Update 2.0.1 is not the first time we’ve made changes to Destiny, and it’s guaranteed not to be the last. You’re a part of that process, so keep the conversation lively wherever you’re having it.
I don't know what the hell was up with the tomb ship jumping though. That was garbage. I was dying landing on the ship, momentum was carrying me over it, a few times it felt like I slid off after landing. Just complete bullshit to the point where it just about makes me not want to play the raid on my titan until we get to the totems.
Yeah I struggled with the pistons, better control is the way to go there for sure. Height helps with the ships but it seems like without better control you bounce off the platforms at the piston part due to the momentum. Main issue I had adjusting to the Titan jump is it is almost too powerful at times and I found myself almost overshooting the ships/platforms.
After thinking about it some I do think our best bet overall is to not kill Ir Anuk on the first run. It gives us more options and doesn't force our hand if we get in a rut and can't get the kill on the second run. I know for me personally I can do the jumps fine but it takes me longer leaving us with less time to get the kill.
HIGHLY recommend grinding to level 5 in IB on at least one character and getting the Pulse Rifle. That thing is amazing, tested it out last night after the raid and out of the games I played, the worst game I had was 15 kills and a 1.07 K/D.
EDIT: Holy crap, two guys from TheLegendHimself's clan two manned Oryx last night.
Used Sunsingers as they obviously couldn't get the spark and bombs will kills you every time. Tried to have the ogres die close together so each person could hopefully set off two bombs at a time, though 3 in a run was fine. Both stayed on the deathsinger platforms. Only one used their super until they got to the teleport phase, then they both needed to use them to comeback.
I'll hit rank 5 on my Hunter. I need like 900 more rep to hit rank 4, and then once I do that the weekly bounty should put me a nice chunk of the way to rank 5.
I used my raid pulse and scout (both had crap rolls) to infuse my Suros pulse rifle up to 306. That thing has such a good roll on it that it just a straight firing headshot machine. Perfect Balance, Counterbalance, and then a perk that increases the range at the slight expense of some reload. It's the Hacksaw with almost maxed stability and about 50 range.
See I had no issue with the pistons; I died twice there, once from being thrusted trying to get the fragment, and once because David got off the plate and I fell through the platform. Perfectly fine with the stationary platforms. I just couldn't get the timing down on the tomb ships. I either went too far, tried to back off and then didn't go far enough, or died hitting the ship. I didn't even make it to the checkpoint (and I do think I probably would have been okay once I got there since the ships spawn closer together).
And that's the definitely the safe play with the daughters. I still think we could easily do it in just two phases overall. The only thing that prevented us from doing it last night was the deathsinger facing away from us; hard to crit from the back-side. That could easily have been solved by either going to where Ir Anuk died at or simply having one person looking at the deathsinger and call out which direction she is facing and then meet up on that side. I had weapons of light, which took ToM up to over 7,000 per headshot.
So glad I didn't bother playing anymore Iron Banner over the weekend.
Played and won one game this morning; completed four of the six daily bounties I had plus the final weekly one, and went from rank 3 to rank 5. Was also able to knock out a couple of crucible bounties. Bought the boots, side arm, and pulse rifle.
It can drop with counter balance apparently, though I have only seen it drop for someone once and it did not have it. I might play some IB today just to see if I can get one to drop but I don't plan on spending tons of time on it.
I have 16 hours invested in my warlock, and no subclasses maxed (stormcaller is almost there, there's nothing on sunsinger and only three nodes on voidwalker). I haven't done a majority of the quests on my warlock (I haven't even unlocked the King's Fall quest or come close to it).
Outside of the raid, and the nightfall, I still only care to run one character for everything else.
What I'm considering is deleting my warlock again. I say it's stupid because I won't have a spark of light. But there are pluses to it; I'd have four exotic swords, so that'd give me a 310 to infuse into Sleeper Simulant. I'd have the armor and weapons to get to 301 as soon as I hit 40. I'd also have the warlock exclusive scout rifle. My Cryptarch rank is 3, New Monarchy is 2, and the Vanguard is 1... so I wouldn't be losing any progress there.
Not something I'm going to rushingly decide to because I won't get the scout rifle until Wednesday anyway, but I'm thinking about it before I get any further along. With hard mode releasing this week, I don't see raiding on my warlock happening anytime soon.
I just don't like how the armor looks on a female warlock.
It takes about 50 motes of light (1000 rep) to unlock the second step. For that one, you just go to Venus to the Ember Caves and wait for the Taken to show up and kill a major taken minotaur. It'll work anywhere there there is a major taken minotaur, but that's just the easiest one I could remember where one spawned. Once you do that, you get an item in your mission inventory, and you dismantle it (shatter it), and go back to FWC.
The next step is complete the VOG. Atheon will drop an eye, you'll have to shatter it (same as above), and return to FWC to get the gun.
It drops at 290 and is now kinetic damage. It looks like it should be beastly though; exotic stranger's rifle that fires in full auto, has hand loaded/fitted stock, and has the unique perk "rewind again;" precision hits are immediately returned to the magazine.
Basically, it will be a infinite ammo, never need to reload machine against certain bosses.
Yep. Hopefully the quest will unlock tomorrow on my Titan, will be fairly annoyed if I have to wait until next week. Easily the gun I've anticipated the most even before hearing about the signature perk. Absolutely love Pulse Rifles and this thing looks like a monster for sure.
Vault of Glass normal mode works for this next part. Shatter the eye Atheon drops, talk to Lakshmi again to gain the next part, a single player mission, Approach The Twilight Gap. Here you must find a chest on the Crucible Map, Twilight Gap. I found it behind Control Point C. You steadily lose vision while on this map, so step in the puddles to cleanse. Take this to our new favorite Exo friend to get the last part of the quest: Approach the Black Garden (LL 290).
SO. MANY. MINOTAURS. In order to lure out the Groundskeeper, kill the adds in the area until you reach 100% or more Anger. He will then show up until he loses Anger. When you defeat him, return to Lakshmi to get your new gun, No Time To Explain!
Need to do VOG normal sometime soon, tomorrow or Thursday.
Yeah I knew it wasn't the last step but I knew it would be the only step that halts progress temporarily. I'll be down to do it tomorrow, hopefully the mission unlocks for my Titan by then. We should grab the Atheon checkpoint though that way if there is anyone else that needs it they can skip all the way to the last fight.
I'll be down Friday night, we need to try and assemble a team before Friday IMO though rather than trying to do so day of. I sent a message to Constant and I'm sure he's down as long as he's not out of town or having company over. If David is down then we'll only need 2 more.
