All previous Destiny 1 threads have been merged together, just because there's about to be no need for D1 threads as I don't imagine any of us will be playing once D2 drops.
I'll probably play some on September 4th and 5th, but other than that I doubt I return to the game before then unless we do a raid.
I wouldn't have imagined it, but did return to D1 last week and have been playing it some this week too. It's just a more fun game. At this point, I really do wish "Destiny 2" would've just been a $60 expansion for Destiny. And you can change, rewrite, upgrade an engine to a game with an expansion. Warframe has reworked their engine, in some instances fundamentally changed large portions of it, and still kept the core game intact. MMO's can do it as well.
The weapons are better. The subclass options are better. The ability cool downs for PvE are better. The bounty system is better than challenges. Random rolls. Heroic story missions with modifiers, heroic strikes with modifiers, a Nightfall strike that is decent.
And the thing is, you can look at where Destiny ended and where it began, and see the casualizing of the game that led us to Destiny 2 from each expansion. But even with all of that aside, D1 still felt really good.
There was a time where you could have Fatebringer, Black Hammer, and Gjallarhorn equipped when they were all at their strongest. Not me, of course, because I couldn't get the Gjallarhorn (but boy did I have fun chasing it for almost a year). But that, pre-House of Wolves, was a super powerful loadout in any end-game PvE content. It obviously wasn't the only loadout that was viable, but powerful nonetheless.
Then they nerfed Black Hammer, and then Gjallarhorn. Then TTK came out and there were no more elemental primaries, Black Hammer got an exotic version that wasn't even as powerful as the original legendary version, and Gjallarhorn was left behind.
In D2 there are no really powerful weapons, no super effective loadouts. There's a stupid juggler modifier in all content. You're at the mercy of the game in that you can't pop a synth. You can't use a rocket/sword alongside a sniper/shotgun.
I'm still shocked and amazed that, at this point in the game's life, D1 is better and more fun than D2 in most ways.
