Fox network officials reportedly want SmackDown to show less comedy and take more of a sports direction, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Fox is including SmackDown as a part of their new sports block of programming, which will run Thursday through Sunday in 2019, and they want some changes made to the product.
Vince McMahon is said to be more into the comedy presentation with wrestling. It was reported back when WWE signed the deal with Fox that the network wanted to do a lot of cross-promoting with the other sports programs they have. Fox wants to have some of their sports stars & personalities appear on the various shows to heavily promote the block, and they want to give them something athletically-oriented to promote, according to the Observer.
We'll see. I mean they're paying a bunch of money, and McMahon will have to deliver something resembling what they want.
Just wish someone, or some major outlet, would put some money behind someone other than WWE.
NWA doing their 70th anniversary show tonight. If you could get the likes of ROH, Impact, MLW, CMLL, and even NJPW to a lesser extent to work together (but still separate) under the NWA banner and put that on a major network, you'd have something.
There are also rumors--and they may be totally bullshit (Jericho even mocked them, but he would kayfabe it regardless) of Jim Ross and Jericho partnering up with a billionare family to start a new promotion on AXS. The 'newz' sites say it is the same family that owns the Jacksonville Jags, which is perfect for wrestling since it shows they already are down to squander millions upon millions regardless of quality or chances to succeed.
