I may as well start the new thread for the new season.
Good summary of all the changes coming with Lightfall tomorrow February 28.

I wanted to start it last night, but everything ran late on me, so I played nothing.

Here are my early impressions having beaten the campaign on Legendary yesterday.
The missions are great, very fun. I'd say it seemed easier than Witch Queen Legendary did. The final boss was definitely a pain in the ass though.
The story itself though was complete garbage and nonsense. Even by Destiny standards, which in-game story wise are very low, it was quite bad. I'd rank it near the bottom of all expansions narratively. It's right there alongside vanilla D1 as being a nonsensical mess.
The writing as bad as it has been since vanilla D2. Nimbus easily ranks amongst the worst characters in the franchise's history. During the first months of D2, I turned the dialogue all the way down so I wouldn't hear it anymore. This douche makes me want to do that again.
Neomuna looks cool I guess, a little flat, but the big issue with it is there's just a lot of empty space. There should be way more enemies. I'm sad they got rid of the Leviathan patrol zone, because that was a fun space packed with enemies on fast respawning.
The seasonal stuff is seasonal stuff. More Battlegrounds, more play these activities to try and get a key to open a chest in the seasonal activity. At least the War Table won't take so long to complete this time, and focusing seasonal engrams into seasonal weapons seems to be better. Will depend on the drop rate of the engrams since it costs 4 to focus 1 weapon. Still better than needing 30+ of some seasonal energy that drops five at a time.
I have no idea what the purpose of the power level grind is considering you're gonna always be underleveled for every activity. Just do away with it already.

Things feel generally more difficult to me and I also felt like parts of the campaign were harder but then again I've never been Superman Solo so I had a fireteam for several of those boss instances and especially the final. Story is... eh... I think this narrative started losing the rails a while back in some ways. We had a tight focus and then...wait for it...not long after Bungie left Activision I feel like we have had some over iteration and loss of narrative cohesion.
Nimbus is weak. Rohan was the better of those two and I would have probably Nimbus killed off instead. I typically kill the dialogue volume down after story time anyways because of necessary repetition. I like Neomuna for the most part. It has a Borderlands 3 parts of Meridian City type feel to it in some ways. I feel like some parts of it are emptier than they should be. Maybe room for future content?
Agreed about power level grind.
Sony supposedly bought out Bungie right? I need to start seeing that. I need to see the magic that I saw happen with Guerrilla Games where they turn around and make Horizon Zero games.
I am one of those people who thinks this series is overdue to move on to a Destiny 3 with all that goes with it but if they do they are way overdue to rethink some of this formula and abandon certain concepts. I don't understand why they don't more attention to their fanbase and especially some of those people who are stubbornly sticking to Destiny 1. There are reasons for that and good ones.
I'm underwhelmed with Strand so far.

Good back and forth so to speak. I think a lot of us are on the same page.
IGN gave Lightfall a 5/10 and the writer is a pretty big Destiny fan so it wasn't some throw away grudge job. I think if Lightfall had been a $20 DLC which is what it feels like in a lot of ways that score would be a bit harsh but it is what it is and everyone pretty much admits that "we keep playing because we are addicted and because of a, b, and c that it does really well."
The next few weeks and any adjustments Bungie might make and likely should are going to be critical for Lightfall at least. Witch Queen set a fairly high bar to say nothing about Forsaken and some of the previous story arcs. We'll see.

I'd personally rate it right there with Witch Queen and Forsaken.
In terms of content.
To me the story has always been complete garbage, I don't really know what some folks were expecting. Feel like I've been playing a different game if people expect a good story from Destiny. It's never had that.

I would tend to agree with him about some balance issues that need some refinement. It's not about "git gud" either. I can't believe this "frame rates affect damage" issue STILL has not been addressed. One of the issues continues to be this bizarre "frame rate affects damage" issue.

I am seriously about to switch to standard difficulty on this campaign. I wanted to get the extra loot like I did for Witch Queen on my first play through, but thus far I've had to get help on every mission to complete it and I'm only on the 4th actual mission I think???

I wouldn't mind getting some raiding done. I need to knock two of them out to get my rank past 7. Do you all do it? If so, when?

Haven't done a raid in over a year.
Also haven't even played enough this season to get rank 100 yet.

I got carried through the new one, so I have no idea what I'm doing.
I haven't even played enough to be at season rank 50. I'm just not that interested. I tried, but I just can't.
If we can get some folks together, I'd help get a couple raids in for Q.

I know a guy in a pretty active clan and he's been pretty charitable to me in the past. Maybe he can bring us on or something.

Probably by or around 2025. They have to move forward.

Destiny 2 definitely has too many issues to keep going.
I favor a hard reset, and 2025 release of it would probably keep me away from The Final Shape.
That said, I wouldn't have high hopes. The Bungie team has gotten steadily worse since Destiny first released back in 2014.
For it to work, right, and not have people complain about their D2 gear and cosmetics, take it somewhere outside of our solar system. A new Guardian in new locations with all new gear.
Unfortunately, as fun as the actual gameplay is, I just don't see it ever going back to what I preferred. For me, the best Destiny ever was was the few short months of House of Wolves. It's been a mostly slow roll down hill ever since Taken King.
It's just moved with the trend of other games and unfortunately that's the whole seasonal BS with "battle passes." I hate it.
I want to hop on, doing a Nightfall and a Heroic Strike, get my weekly reward, and then do other stuff. Now it's grind the same NF on high difficulties that aren't even matchmade to "farm" materials and drops.
Back in D1, exotics were actually rare to get for the entirety of year one (i.e. the best year). Do the NF on each character, and hope to get a Gjallarhorn or a Hawkmoon or whatever. I miss that.
Basically, I want activities with a weekly lockout (NF, Heroic strike, Raid, Dungeon, etc.) and also daily stuff (Heroic story, bounties, lost sectors, etc.) I want exotics to be rare; gotten as rare drops but also some that come from quests given as random bounty completions.
I want legendary weapons with random rolls, upgradeable by actually using the weapon, and the ability to reroll a perk once fully upgraded at a material cost.
I want raid and dungeon weapons to be unique with a static roll. I enjoyed doing VoG and Crota every week in D1 trying to get great weapons (Fatebringer, Blackhammer, etc). Because I knew at most I only had three shots a week, but once I got it that was it. Now the weapon you want can drop with any garbage roll, and that kills any desire for me. I don't care about crafting because that system also sucks.
What I'm saying is, I just want a more refined version of Destiny 1. Mainly Year 1, but the entirety of that game really.
When a new expansion comes out, I want to be able to devour that content, see and do everything with no timegating, and then a month or so later move on to something else. A fun game that you can keep coming back to it as new content releases, not a chore or a game that feels like its a job. Seasons need to die.
I'd rather pay $20 every three or four months for a Dark Below/Curse of Osiris style DLC than $12 for the garbage seasonal stuff we've been getting since 2019

They haven't been the same since they left Activision and in hindsight, I'm woefully it ever happened.
I have seen what Guerrilla Games became with the Horizon Zero games once they came under the Sony umbrella.
That needs to happen here with Bungie. There may be some money but it comes with some direction and some necessary strings attached. If Sony is going throw big money at this like Aztecross was mentioning then they damned well better have something to show for it. There is no way Sony people can be happy with the numbers they are seeing and these increasingly dreadful and embarrassing tech issues. It's become a bad joke: ANY kind of content change = days of hiccups and mini disasters. Bringing in Guardian Games cost them. Taking it out will cost them. Flipping to a new season? I'll be amazed if I'm playing it on Tuesday let's put it that way.

Early impressions... I'll take a look at the new dungeon when it launches but basically I'm done.
I appreciate that there is no seasonal vendor thing to upgrade, but I'm just tired of the seasonal approach.
Salvage is just another 6 man matchmade activity. The formula is stale. The loot is meh. A few Taken themed weapons and some Reckoning reprisals.
Lots of stuff for Silver though.
Oh well.
Right now there is a 95% chance that I don't buy Final Shape and a 100% chance if I do buy it that it won't be the version that includes the season passes.
