So AEW is rumored to doing a brand split soon when they launch their new two-hour Saturday night show.
That will make three brands if you count ROH. WWE doesn't do brand splits correctly, long term. They did them right for awhile.
I have no faith whatsoever that Tony Khan can do a brand split properly. Mainly because he seems to think he has to the booker for everything, and his booking just isn't good enough for that.
I won't watch the Saturday show anyway. There's too much wrestling on TV right now. WWE is pretty hot right now, but AEW's ratings are down on average quite a bit from a year ago. They have a bloated roster that needs to be trimmed, not split. Even with a brand split, they won't have enough time for everyone and they won't have separate PPV events (which IMO a brand split needs to really be effective).
Saturday show is going to get killed in the Fall anyway when up against college football, so what top star is going to want to stay on it when the ratings will be much worse than Dynamite's? They say CM Punk will be the star of the show, but let's be real, this is the guy who complained WWE didn't use him right and WWE had him their champion for over a year on the A show. He's not going to long term be happy leading the B show to a ratings slaughter.

I may check out a show or two and give them a chance, but so far, AEW has been like a big budget version of early days TNA for me. There are some incredible matches and great moments, but you sure gotta wade through a lot of BS to get to it.

This just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Another idea ripped off from WWE. Do something new and original.

When Tony Khan does it, it's a great idea and revolutionary didn't ya know?
He kicked open the "forbidden door" remember? Made it possible for an American promotion to co-promote a show with NJPW. You just have to forget that WCW, TNA/Impact and ROH all did it as well, or that WWE worked with AJPW in the early 90s or ECW and CMLL in the mid 90s.
I joke of course, but the man really does annoy me. And he's getting to Dixie Carter levels of having a "major announcement" every week that ends up being nothing major at all.

What purpose is this even supposed to serve?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Dynamite quite a bit. Rampage...meh. But more an more I find myself agreeing with Eric Bischoff in that there's not enough story. Not enough 'what's gonna happen next?' The only thing on that level is MJF's mic time.
I swear, if Khan could/would hire one or two creative, full time bookers to at least assist him, they might not struggle to get a million viewers on a regurlar basis.

At this point they're doing good to hit 900K viewers. At least Tony no longer tweets about the ratings.
How many weeks can they start the show with a random Orange Cassidy match?

Just going from purely from speculation, this "feels" basically like a half-ass solution to the problem of CM Punk and the Elite guys not being able to get along, and instead of Tony growing a pair and saying you don't have to be friends, but you take my money, you work with who you're told etc... he decides to create a second or third counting ROH, brand within a brand. It's madness.

That's some solid speculation Jules. TK definitely doesn't seem like the type to have much of a backbone, like he wants to be everyone's friend. Pretty sure that's not how his dad became a billionaire.
I'm wondering if it was a Warner decision.
